Miscellany for New Citizens was the mouthpiece of reformists during the 1911 Revolution. How to achieve freedom was a key issue of Writers of Miscellmay for New Citizens when they publicized westward free thought. By observing the different world situations and the special situation in China, they recognized the importance of personal autonomy, and taxes were decis- ive to strive for freedom. More importantly, they thought that it was important for Chinese people to cultivate spirit of freedom through education.
