China’s Regional Economic Complexity and Economic Growth:An Empirical Analysis Based on Provincial Panel Data

摘要基于产品空间与比较优势演化理论,本文运用中国2002-2007年31个省级区域的面板数据对中国地区经济复杂度与经济增长之间的关系进行了研究。实证结果显示,地区经济复杂度与经济增长之间存在着稳定、显著的正相关关系;经济复杂度对中国各地区的经济增长均起着重要作用,但对各地区的影响程度不同,对东中部地区,经济复杂度的影响更大,而对西部地区的影响相对较小,并且这些结论不受控制变量和内生性问题的影响。 According to the theories of product space and comparative advantage evolution, this paper first makes use of the regional panel data of China＇s 31 provinces from 2002 to 2007 to study the relationship between China＇s regional economic complexity and economic growth. The empirical results show that there exists a stable and significant positive correlation between regional economic complexity and economic growth; the economic complexity plays an important role in the economical growth in China＇s regions, but the degrees of the effects are not the same at different regions, in the eastern and central regions, the effect of the economic complexity is bigger, while it is less in the western region. Besides, these conclusions are not affected by the controlling variables and the en-dogenous problem.
