"文艺复兴"这一概念虽然有其深远的知识谱系,但无论作为一个历史分期、文化概念还是美学概念,它都是19世纪的产物。19世纪按自己的需要建构了"文艺复兴"。对"文艺复兴"这一历史分期的划分体现着19世纪对自身的反思:19世纪在为自己探源,在为自己书写历史,在为自己寻求根据。同时,这一概念也为19世纪的审美主义提供了最主要的理论资源。

＂Renaissance＇was born in the 19th century. Though it has its own pedigree, it is formed ac-cording to the needs of the 19th century. This historical division of ＂Renaissance＂ is the reflection of it-self, because the 19th century explores its source, its history and evidence. At the same time, this con-cept may provide the theoretical resources to the aestheticism in the 19th century.
