Females with varieties oi personahty and destiny are covered in Nathaniel Hawthorne＇s works at diiterent pe-riod, and the different female roles reflect his viewpoints on women issues： females are obedient completely controlled in pa-triarchal system in the early stages, kindhearted, pure and tolerant and respected in the family in the 1940s, and become in- dependent in the mid-19th century.
