Shakespeare's famous drama The Tempest shows his deep humanist beliefs. The two women in this work, the virtuous Miranda and the vicious Syeorax, represent goodness and evll respectively. Their different fate conveys Shakespeare's good intention of rewarding virtue and punishing vice. This article applies feminism to analyze the characters of these two women. It holds that The Tempest expresses Shakespeare's male chauvinism, and the female in this works are oppressed and demonized under patriarchal domination.
