艾略特和卡明斯诗歌中的春天所蕴含的生态意识

An Analysis of Spring in Eliot and Cummings's Pomes from the Ecocritical Perspective

T.S.Eliot(艾略特)和E.E.Cummings(卡明斯)同是20世纪美国著名诗人。在两位诗人的作品中出现了迥然不同的春天的形象。在《荒原》中艾略特认为"四月最残忍",而卡明斯却在诗歌中热情地讴歌赞美大自然和春天,甚至将春天作为精神的家园。但在看似不同的表象下,却是同样的生态关怀和生态忧思。卡明斯是从正面来描写和歌颂春天,赞美大自然,同时也抨击了现代西方文明所带来的自然生态和精神生态问题。而艾略特却是用逆向思维和反讽手法来探讨现代人类的精神失衡。艾略特和卡明斯,无疑都是具有强烈生态意识的作家,只是在诗中的表现形式不同而已。

T. S. Eliot and E. E. Cummings are both important American poets in the 20th century. In their poems, the image of spring is quite different. In his masterpiece The Waste Land, Eliot depicts the April as ＂the cruellest month＂ , while Cummings spares no efforts to sing high praise for the spring. De-spite the different springs in their works, both of them talked about the ecological problems of western cul-tures from the natural and spiritual perspectives. So, in this regard, Eliot and Cummings both have a strong sense of ecocriticism.
