Objective: To compare the current publication statuses in dermatology among China's Mainland, Japan and South Korea. Methods: All publication data were from www.pubmed.com. Only papers formally published in English in 2011 were used for analysis. Results: Japan published 434 papers in dermatology in 2011 while South Korea and China's Mainland pub- lished 346 and 267, respectively. The average impact factor per paper from China's Mainland was significantly higher than that from South Korea (2.75±0.22 vs. 1.25±0.06, P〈0.001). There was no difference in the average impact factor per paper between China's Mainland and Japan (2.33±0.10). The average impact factor per USS1 000 gross domestic product per capita was 165.46 for China's Mainland. The average impact factor per USS1 000 gross domestic product per capita for Japan and South Korea were 23.54 and 21.11, respectively. Conculsions: The present study suggests that although the dermatological researchers in China's Mainland have published less papers, but publication quality is higher.
