Objective-To study the effects of hunger on somatic chemical composition of marine scavengers which play an important ecological role on the sea bed. Methods-Crude fat was extracted following the method of Bligh and Dyer (1959) and Chan et al. (2004). Carbon and nitrogen contents were determined with the catalyzed combustion method. Protein content was obtained with the tradi-tion Protein-nitrogen conversion factor of 6.9,5 (Allen 1989). Inorganic residue was obtained by using the Dry ashing method (Leniel H. Harbers). Results-After 32 days of starvation, significantly lower percentage of protein and fat but higher percentage of carbohydrate were found in the unfed group as compared with the control for both N. siquijorensis and N. conoidalis. Conclusion-When food was deprived, N. conoidalis and N. Siquijorensis mobilized endogenous physiological fuels such as pro-teins, lipids, and carbohydrates to meet the energy required to carry out the basic processes of life.
