摘要
作为具有新闻记者等多重身份的英国旅行家丁格尔,于清末宣统年间以惊人的毅力步行穿越中国西南,亲眼见闻了1910年在云南昭通发生的一场社会动乱,并对其过程作了详细的记录和个人分析。在作者的眼中,1910年的昭通之乱绝不只是偏僻内地的一场普通事件,它还在某种程度上击碎了晚清新政以来外界普遍看好的新兴假象。在丁格尔见闻笔记的基础上,再借助中外文献的相互参证,实际上还可以进一步地还原该事件中各方当事人的具体诉求。
As a news correspondent with the multiple identities,the British traveler Edwin J. Dingle had walked across southwesten China with amazing perseverance in the late Qing Xuantong years. In his traveling,he witnessed a social upheaval in Zhaotong in 1910 and had a detailed records and personal analysis on its processes. In the author's eyes, the Zhaotong chaos in 1910 was not just an ordinary event in remote mainland, it also shattered the promising illusion that ex- tended widely since the New Deal beginning in late Qing dynasty, based on the Notes of Dingle, we could be further restored all parties specific appeal in the event by cross-reference with chinese and foreign literature evidence. In fact it also provided a different perspective for a comprehensive understanding of local social and political changes in late Qing.
