This paper describes the 4 major favorable conditions of Chongqing Municipality for development and offers strategies for its participation in the current drive for developing the western regions of China. Such strategies are: do a good job in the construction of infrastructure; protect and improve the ecological environment; speed up the re-adjustment of industrial structure; develop science, technology and education; and strengthen the work of attracting foreign investment and coordination of internal relations.
