Besieged City is the representative work of Qian Zhong shu＇, a master of humor, while Activities Fluctuate is the outstanding work of Wang Meng, a famous contemporary writer. The two novels have much in common not only in the background, characters, plot arrangement, but also in humorous satire, characterized by the combination with the psychological description, by the combination of intelligence with daily life and by the use of different rhetorical devices. Thus Qian Zhong shu＇s mastery of humor and irony is examined as well as the adoption of modern humor satire skills by Wang Meng and his pioneering contribution are discussed in the paper.
