Toxoplasrna gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that is difficult to detect and diagnose clinically in people who are infected. Nested PCR uses two sets of primers to amplify genes of target cells twice to identify them, resulting in a higher concentration and purity of target fragments from a tiny amount of template. When detecting T. gon dii, nested PCR also has advantages such as sensitivity, specificity, and consistency. This paper reviews advances in the use of nested PCR to detect and genetically study T. gondii.
