本文探讨了郭实腊对《红楼梦》的误读。郭实腊首次真正意义上将《红楼梦》译介到英语世界。但由于自己中国语言文学水平有限,以及受"西方中心主义"思想影响,他在译介《红楼梦》过程中误读了《红楼梦》的文学价值和艺术成就、《红楼梦》中的人物以及《红楼梦》的故事情节。

This article probes into Karl Friedrich August Gutzlaff ’s misreading of Hongloumeng.Karl Friedrich August Gutzlaff is the first person who introduced Hongloumeng into the English world.However,because of his incompetence of the Chinese language and literature and the influence of ＂Western Centralism＂,he misread some characters and plots of Hongloumeng,the literary value and artistic achievement of the novel as well.
