The Scarlet Letter is one of the well-known works by American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. Reception aesthetics focuses on the reader, forming the theoretical framework of the trinity：the process of the text writing, the text structure and reading. This paper analyzes the reader＇ s horizon of expectation, exposing the profound social and literature value from the perspective of receDtion aesthetics.
