从挚友到对手——对胡适与梅光迪“文学革命”争论的再评价

From Intimate Friend To Adversary: Re - evaluation of the Controversy about “Literary Revolution”between Hu Shi and Mei Guangdi

胡适与梅光迪留美期间有关白话是否可以入诗的争论以及胡适的白话诗创作实践,如今已经成为20世纪中国文学史上重要的文学事件之一。值得注意的是,胡适与梅光迪的争论一直限于私人书信往来层次,属于文人正常的日常交往活动。利用他们的日记和书信以及同时代人的回忆录等材料,运用日常生活批判理论进行个案分析,可以发现有别于正统文学史书写的另一种解读历史的方式,有助于丰富对五四文学革命孕育和发生过程的理解,也有助于加深对胡适那一代中国知识分子的理解。

It has now become one of the most important events in Chinese literary history of the 20th century that the controversy between Hu Shi and Mei Guangdi on whether or not a piece of poem can be written with modern vernacular Chinese and the former＇s practice in writing poem in it during their study in the United States. What is worth noting is that their controversy is limited to their private correspondence, namely to normal daily contacts among scholars. A case study by making use of their diaries and letters, and reminiscences by their contemporaries from the angle of the critical theory in daily life will, therefore, reveal a pattern to interpret history other than that to write an orthodox history of literature, and will help enrich the understanding the brewing and the generation of the May 4th Literary Revolution. Besides, it is helpful to the deepening of the understanding of Chinese intellectuals of the generation of Hu Shi.
