研究表明,铁离子与神经元的发育密切相关,脑内铁不但直接参与神经元的氧化代谢与酶促反应,同时也是神经递质合成及轴突髓鞘形成的重要辅助因子之一。脑铁代谢的区域性失衡与许多中枢神经系统退行性疾病的发生发展都有紧密关联陪,
