摘要
It is more than 40 years since the former U.S. national security adviser Henry Kissinger and President Richard Nixon visited China in 1971 and 1972 respectively. Although the situation in both countries and in the world has undergone tremendous change over the past 4 decades, the fundamentals of Sino-U.S. relations have been good. Even against such a big changing background like the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of China after the reform and open-up, the two sides have neither been engaged in all-round confrontation nor in war.
Sino-U.S. relationship has been supported by two pillars: one being their shared interests and points in common, and the other being that neither side has challenged, threatened or opposed each other's core interests. The two powers should continue to strengthen these two pillars in order to maintain stable and positive relations.
