数学建模竞赛是面向全国大学生的群众性科技活动,是培养创新型人才的一个重要手段,对培养学生的综合能力具有一定的驱动作用。着重分析并阐述了竞赛对培养大学生理论联系实际的应用数学意识,发挥学生的想象力、创造力和团体协作能力,用数学语言描述实际问题,提高计算机应用能力及科研能力等综合能力的驱动作用。

Mathematical contest in modeling （MCM） is a mass character technological activity for university students. It is an important means of training innovative talents. And it has great driving effect on cultivating students＇ comprehensive ability. This paper emphatically analyzed the driving effect of the contest on students＂ comprehensive ability. The ability contains applying mathematics consciousness of theory into practice, imagination power, creativity ability, cooperative a- bility, solving practical problems ability, scientific research ability, and computer application ability etc.
