Translation and Cultural Filtering

文化过滤是跨文化转换中的一种必然现象,它存在于所有形式的跨文化转换当中。作为一种特殊形式的跨文化转换,翻译即是目标文化对源文本与源语文化实施文化过滤的过程。在借鉴比较文学、跨文化戏剧等相关学科"文化过滤"思想的基础上,探讨翻译中的文化过滤现象,厘清"文化过滤"、"文化过滤层"等概念,并通过具体实例分析文化过滤的主要形式与作用机制等问题,提出具有一定普遍适用性的翻译文化过滤模式。

Cultural filtering is embedded in all types of intercultural transfer. As a special type of it, translation cannot be an exception. Based on discussions about cultural filtering in fields of comparative literature and intercultural theatre, this paper explores the phenomenon of cultural filtering in translation, defines concepts of ＂cultural filtering＂ and ＂cultural filters＂, and analyzes its major forms and operating mechanism. The author also proposes a cultural filtering model of translation, which is to some extent universal.
