女性审美的超越与升华——新解《到灯塔去》中拉姆齐夫人形象

Transcendence and Sublimation of the Female Aesthetic in To the Lighthouse

《到灯塔去》是英国女性主义文学批评的先驱弗吉尼亚.伍尔夫的鼎力之作。女主人公拉姆齐夫人通常被认为是男权制社会的牺牲品,丧失女性自我的典型代表,但实际上,拉姆齐夫人已经超越了传统的贤妻良母角色,潜意识中渴望能有一定的社会作为,这种传统精神与超越精神的结合使她的人格魅力得到了拓展和升华。以当代女性主义理论为基础,透视出她既拥有家里天使的传统之美,又拥有博爱之母的超越之美以及圣母形象的永恒之美的多维形象,可以更好地理解作者希望建立一种自足而开放的女性自我,希望男女两性和谐共存的女性美学立场。

To the Lighthouse is one of the most well-known works by British writer Virginia Woolf. In it, Mrs. Ramsay, the protagonist, is generally considered the victim of a patriarchal society and a typical symbol of the loss of the female self. However, it could be argued that in fact, Mrs. Ramsay has gone beyond the traditional roles of wife and mother, leading to the transcendence and sublimation of her as a female. Based on contemporary feminist theories, this paper interprets Mrs. Ramsay＇s conventional beauty as symbolic of her role as an ＇angel＇ in the home and as a mother. It reveals the author＇ s hopes to establish an image of the female as self-sufficient and open.
