盖斯凯尔夫人笔下的女性形象解析

On the Image of Women in Mrs. Gaskell’s Works

19世纪的英国女作家伊丽莎白.盖斯凯尔夫人在作品中刻画了很多独具特色的女性形象,她们勇敢无畏,自食其力,敢于承担生活的重担,她们的出现颠覆了维多利亚时代传统的"天使"形象。在塑造女性人物的过程中,盖斯凯尔夫人又受到男权社会规约的影响,因而并未完全摆脱传统思想的束缚,具有一定的思想局限性。尽管史料并未证明盖斯凯尔夫人是女权主义者,但她的作品确实体现了日益觉醒的女性意识。

The British female author Elizabeth Gaskell depicts many unique females, who are brave, independent and dare to bear the heavy burden of life. Their appearance broke the traditional ＂angel＂ image in Victorian Times. While in the process of shaping the female characters, Mrs. Gaskell was influenced by the statute of the patriarchal society, thus did not completely get rid of the bondage of traditional ideas, and there was limitation to some extent. Even though history does not acknowledge that Mrs. Gaskell is a feminist, but her works do reflect the awakening female consciousness.
