Influence of European Architecture on Chinese Vernacular Dwellings

19世纪以来,欧式建筑传入中国,在建筑设计形式与方法上都影响了中国民居.在设计形式方面,中国民居吸收欧式建筑元素,创造了外廊形式、骑楼形式、合院式多层结构形式等等;在设计方法方面,中国民居也吸收了欧式建筑观念,形成了开放式设计、多元化设计、表现性设计等方法.

The design forms and methods of Chinese vernacular dwellings have been influenced by European architecture introduced to China since the nineteenth century. In the respect of design forms, Chinese vernacular dwellings borrowed the elements of European architecture and created ＂verandah style＂, ＂arcade style＂ and ＂courtyard-cascading style＂, etc. As for the design methods, Chinese vernacular dwellings also assimilated European architectural notions and formed such ways as open design, diversified design and expressionistic design, etc.
