林纾对中外小说艺术的比较研究

On Linshu’s Comparative Study of Chinese and Foreign Novels

作为中国近代最著名的翻译家，林纾在比较研究方面也取得了重大成就。他对中外小说的比较研究，主要侧重于描写对象和艺术手法的比较；他还将自撰小说与西方小说进行比较；尤其是他的“外外比较”，即对外国不同民族之间的小说进行比较，更是对比较这一研究方法的一大开拓。

One of the most famous translators in modem China, Lin Shu （1852 -1924） has also made great achievements in comparative studies of literature. His comparison of Chinese and foreign novels focuses on that of objects described and artistic techniques. He also compares his own novels with those written by Western novelists. His comparisons among foreign novels have, in particular, marked a milestone in the devel- opment of comparative study as a research method.
