In Matthew Arnold's critical career,he takes such terms as "Philistine","Disinterestedness" and "Sweet and Light",but his "Copying Doctrine" has a deep intention.He takes "Philistine" to criticize material worship of the middle class,"Disinterestedness" to criticize Victorians' narrow sense of classes and "Sweet and Light" to interpret the importance of cultivation of humanistic quality in a material-oriented society.
