On the Textual Function from the Perspective of Lotman's Analysis of the Poetic Text

前苏联文化符号学家尤里·洛特曼认为,文本不是某种静止的客体,而是作为一种功能而存在。其功能有三:信息传递功能、信息生成功能和信息记忆功能。诗歌作为人类重要的艺术文本发挥着以上三种功能。但诗歌文本在实现信息传递、生成和记忆功能时具有特殊性,它不仅能在极小的文本中存储比其他文学体裁更多的信息,且在传递和生成信息的过程中,能以诗歌文本所独有的方式生成无限的新意。

Yury Lotman, the former Soviet semiotician argues that the text is not a certain stationary object, but exits as a function ; and its function includes information transmission function, information generation function and information memory function. Poetry as an important artistic text plays all the three functions above. Also, the poetic text is unique when realizing the function of information transmission, generation and memory. The poetic text can not only store more information in the tiny text compared to any other literary genre, but can generate infinite novelty in the process of passing and generating information in a unique way
