A Review of Mo Yan's Novel,Frog

《蛙》以新中国近60年农村生育史为背景,在形象地描述计地划生育政策所走过的艰巨而复杂的历史过程的同时,成功塑造了一个生动、感人的农村妇科医生形象;并剖析了以叙述人蝌蚪为代表的知识分子卑微、尴尬、纠结、矛盾的精神世界。小说通过姑姑历时性的身份变更和其他人物共时性的关系结构所呈现出的故事伦理,而上升为对人的整体生存状态的关怀,以及对世人在时代中生存却无法跳出时代背景的哲学思考,写出了在现实生存困境中不断挣扎的肉身和灵魂,但也存在部分不足之处。

The novel Frog takes rural reproductive history of nearly 60 years of new China as the background and tells the frustrations of life experienced of the aunt-a rural woman doctor. At the same time, the author describes vividly the birth control policies have gone through the arduous and complex historical process and successfully creates a vivid, moving rural gynecologist image, besides analyses intellectuals＇ humble, awkward, tangled, contradictory spiritual world-tadpole is a narrative person and the representative of them. The novel shows the story ethical though the diachronie identity change of aunt and other figures synchronic relation- ship structure, therefore, it is far beyond the mere fertility political explore. Whereas it is up to care people＇ s overall presence as well as the philosophical thinking of modem people, who survive in historical background and can not jump out of the context of the time, writing constantly struggling with the plight of real life flesh and soul, but there are also some inadequacies.
