With the techniques and rules improved, and electronic protective devices introduced, Taekwond0 has taken on a new technical look and gained growing popularity. The purpose of this study was to answer the question whether the use of spinning kicks and the scores are affected by the amendment to the rules in 2009. I investigated the use of spinning kicks in the men's finals and semi-finals of the 2011 Taekwondo World Championships, and found that back kicks and spinning kicks were used more frequently after the amendment than before. Male athletes' use of back kicks, mainly in the forms of counter attack and repulse attack, had witnessed prominent improvement in its frequency and rate of success. The back and spinning kicks were mainly used with the right leg, but the spin- ning kicks were rarely applied in left-forward gestures. The scores displayed on the screen imposed some influence on the athletes' choice of techniques. Those who were at a disadvantage tended to use spinning kicks more frequent- ly than those at an advantage. The spinning kicks were mainly used in the middle and central part of the arena in- stead of at the sides and comers.
