Compared with that in the early stages of industrial society, the living standard of people in post-indus- trial society has been greatly improved, with leisure time increased. Mass media and advertising is full of "pas- sionate" elements. The whole world seems to witness a flood of passion. Meanwhile, in the real life however, e- motional numbing and emptiness is growing and spreading in Western society. "Fatigue" has become a globally common phenomenon. The deep reason for this "paradox" is that the domination of capital has entered a new, more subtle phase, that is, when consumption has taken the dominant place of production, the logic of material- ization has become fully and completely universal. "Consumers" in post-industrial society are objects to be pleased, but also the most thoroughly exploited. They are excluded from the "real world," deprived of the possi- bility of independent practice. Thus they were deprived of real inner experience and suffer from the loss of true creativity and genuine passion for life.
