On Role and Characteristics of Democratic Parties in Construction and Development of Colleges and Universities

民主监督、参政议政是我国政党制度赋予民主党派的重要职能。高校是民主党派相对集中的地方,高校民主党派成员具有学历层次高、职称水平高、综合素质强、社会影响力大等特点和优势。高校统战部门在重视并发挥民主党派的作用时,要充分保持并尊重民主党派及其成员的个性;民主党派成员自身也要加强思想修养,更好地凸显民主党派的特点,发挥民主党派应有的作用。两者应共同探讨发挥民主党派作用的路径和方法,以促进社会和谐进步,促进高等教育事业持续发展。

Democratic supervision and participation in politics are the important functions of the democratic parties in China endowed by Chinese political party system. Colleges and universities own many members of democratic parties who have high educational level and academic titles, excellent overall quality as well as great social influence. The United Front Department in universities should bring the role of the democratic parties into full play on the one hand, and sufficiently maintain and respect the democratic parties and their members＇ personality on the other. Besides, party members themselves should strengthen ideological cultivation, so as to better highlight the characteristics of the democratic parties. In order to promote social progress and sustainable development of higher education, both United Front Department in universities and party members should actively explore together the paths and methods of bringing the role o[ democratic parties into full play.
