“情态”对原语文本理解及翻译的制约——以李白诗歌英译为例

Constraints of Modality on the Textual Comprehension and Translation:Based on the English Versions of Li Bai’s Poems

本文以认知语言学有关情态的研究为理论框架,通过对比分析李白诗歌《月下独酌》的不同英译文本,探讨了情态对唐诗理解和翻译的制约。我们发现译者在翻译过程中都自觉或不自觉地受到了原语文本情态的制约,而且译者应尽量实现与原语文本的"情态"对等。

This paper has an exploration on the constraints of modality on the textual comprehension and translation, based on the theory of cognitive linguistics concerning modality and compared with different English Versions of Drinking Alone in the Moonlight by Li Bai. As a result, we find that translators, consciously or unconsciously, not only have con- straints of modality on the comprehension of the source text, but also do their best to achieve ＂modality equivalence＂ to the sourcetext in translation.
