Three aspects are mainly discussed in the paper：the author thinks that Joe Dillon is the prerequisite of the adventure and the encounter.He plays a very important role in the story though he just appears in the first three paragraphs and never in the left parts.Father Butler,who is also matting for the later development of the plot,reflects the repressed and stultifying environment of the society of Dublin.The conflict comes to a climax as the narrator-protagonist and Mahoney encountered the pervert and found his true face.In this story the protagonist ＂I＂,the narrator himself,falls into several kinds of conflicts,such as the conflict between him and his comates,between him and his society——Dublin,and between him and himself-self-conflict.
