The form of binary tales is often regarded as an innovation of Solzhenitsyn in his late years. However, the article shows the inheritance of these tales from the writer's The Red Wheel,a monumental work on the history of the Russian revolution,in structure, material, theme and imagery. This significant continuity to a great extent stems from the writer's view that the reform of Russia in the new time was just'another February Revolution'and he had to keep on fighting with the'red wheel'of modernity. The contextual reading of these tales can also help us to understand his'conservative'ideas more flexibly which have been widely criticized.
