The World Has Changed:Conversations with Alice Walker, edited with an introduction by Professor Rudolph P.Byrd,is a collection of Walker's conversations with a number of American literary and cultural figures including Professor Byrd himself. These conversations, arranged chronologically from 1973through 2009,cover Walker's family life, literary career and her different social activities, exhibiting her personal viewpoints on various topics such as religion, history, capitalism, family ethics, marriage, sex, death, animal rights,Black Civil Rights Movements, colonialism, cultural identity and writers'social roles.Though the conversations appear to be jumbled and incoherent, they contribute to a stirring record of Walker's eco-feminist ideas:stress on nature's majesty, criticism of hierarchy, deconstruction of patriarchal values, and appreciation of cultural diversity.Undoubtedly, this collection of conversations is an invaluable source for our better understanding of Walker's ecological thoughts in her fiction and poetry.
