线装古籍册次的标注分数字和非数字两种形式,数字式有汉字数字、阿拉伯数字、苏州码子、点阵以及数字的混用、借用、省简、增字等;非数字式或为诗文的节选,或是照录、增减书名文字。册次的标注位置可在书根、书脚、书脊、书脑、书眉、版心等处。册次标注在书籍装饰、文献检索、古籍整理、藏书文化和古代数字研究上有重要作用和价值。
