试谈西方学者眼中的义和团运动及其研究方法

Boxer Uprising viewed by Western Scholars and its Researching Method

义和团运动改变了西方殖民列强对当时中国人民愚昧无知、不堪一击,可以任意凌辱、分赃宰割的印象,沉重地打击了其嚣张气焰,保护了中华文化和文明,激起了国人民族意识的觉醒。然而,西方学者对这一运动的认识却在20世纪50年代以来发生了数次较大的变化,这其中反映了他们研究方法与视角上的转变,而这些观点中最接近中国学者观点的"中国中心论"也有着明显的局限性,论述了这种局限性产生的原因以及这种局限性所带来的的影响。

Boxer Uprising changed the impression of arbitrarily insult and rake - off invade into Chinese peo- ple＇s ignorance and collapse by Western Colonial Powers, hit hard the Powers＇ arrogance, protected Chinese cul- ture and civilization, and aroused the Chinese national conciousness. However, the cognition for the Boxer Upris- ing by western scholars has been changed so much and so many times since the 1950s in the 20th Century, which has been the reflection of their shift of research method and viewpoint, even the most similar standpoint to Chinese scholars＇ ＂China Central Principle＂ still exists the obvious limitation. The paper illustrates the reasons why the limitation produced and its influence brought by its limitation.
