A Contrastive Research into Chinese and English Middle Constructions

对比研究发现,英语中动结构和汉语中动结构都是对惯常性或通用属性的描述。英语中动结构须依赖副词、否定形式、情态动词强调等修饰成分才可接受,汉语中动结构须依赖副词、形容词、情态动词才可接受。英语中动结构受事受限,汉语中动结构受事宽泛。汉英中动结构施事都具有任意性。

The contrastive research finds out that both English and Chinese middle constructions are confined to the description of general attributes or habituality. English middle constructions are subject to such attributive elements as adverbs, negative forms, modal verbs or emphatic forms, whereas Chinese middle constructions to adverbs, adjectives, modal verbs. The patients in English middle constructions are limited, while those in Chinese middle constructions are extensive. Arbitrary are the agents in both constructions.
