This paper introduces the working principle of multibeam and side-scan sonar ,describes the multibeam sounding system and side-scan sonar in underwater target detection process through an example, sums up the advantages and disadvantages of two kinds of detection systems in detecting underwater targets, and explains that the comprehensive application of various detection methods is the development direction of underwater target detection technology.
