种族歧视不是一种人类与生俱来的行为,在特定的社会语境下,对非本族裔人群的歧视常表现为一种非本能的偏见与仇视。小说中种植园黑人工人汤姆·罗宾逊被诬陷犯有强奸罪。在法庭审判中,由于白人主流意识的先入为主,公共意识最终绑架了审判结果,使得汤姆最终在逃跑中被杀死。

Human beings are not born with racial discrimination. In a specific social context, discrimination against non-ethnic origin is often characterized as non-instinctive prejudice and hatred. In the novel, Tom Robinson, a black man working in a plantation, was accused of raping a white girl. In court hearings, due to the preconceived notions of the white, public consciousness eventually kidnapped the trial result and Tom was finally shot dead in an escape.
