With the collapse of the Soviet regime, Russian new rulers faced such questions as how to deal with those symbols reflecting the Soviet era? How to take measures to cut with the past? However, the key is a new narrative. Especially when political upheavals occurred, new narratives are all the more necessary. During the Yeltsin era, a strong anti-communist stance was adopted and any positive contribution of the Soviet era to Russia was denied to the greatest extent. Therefore, the narrative based on this has been opposed by various factions of Russian society, resulting in heated political debates. New narratives should be formed on a basis of comprehensively exploring the Soviet history and making meaningful elaborations for the Soviet era. This meaningful and consistent narrative can lay a long-term foundation for the legitimacy for Russia in the post Soviet era.
