In Chang＇ an, the capital of Tang Dynasty, both emperors and common people like to visit the Qujiang River to cele- brate traditional festivals and events. Of all kinds of gatherings by the Qujiang River, the party in honor of Jinshi＇ s admission is the grandest because of the newly admitted Jinshi＇ s unique social and educational backgrounds. As a special way of celebration, Qujiang gatherings are often vividly described in poems and novels of Tang Dynasty. In particular, the novels of Tang Dynasty not only record the customs of the time, but also disolav the psychology of ancient scholars as well as the social reality in Tan~ Dvnastv.
