Messages from Rise and Fall of Modern Sericulture in the State of California

从19世纪中期到20世纪中期的百年间,蚕桑业在美国加利福利亚州(加州)经历了兴起、发展和衰落的过程。本文基于美国史料的记载与实地调查,回顾了这段蚕桑业演变历史,分析了特殊时期的市场需求、个人和政府的行为以及行业内外的竞争等对加州近现代蚕桑业的影响。以史鉴今,讨论了蚕桑丝绸产业发展中值得关注和重视的问题。

From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century,sericulture experienced a process of rise,growth and fall in the State of California,United States of America.Based on US historical records and on-site survey,this paper reviewed the development of sericulture in that period and analyzed the influence of market requirement,conducts of individuals and the government,and the competition from inside and outside of silk industry during special periods on the development of modern silk industry in California.Taking history as reference,we raised a number of issues that should be concerned and valued in development of current silk industry.
