陆谦受,又名陆增寿,1904年生于香港,籍贯广东新会,从小在香港成长受教育,其父亲陆灼文(1866—1938)早年曾试图通过"科举"走上"仕途",但是却屡试不中,于是陆灼文放弃从仕,来到了香港,开始经营航运事业,而陆谦受也因此生在香港湾仔(是香港发展最早的地方之一,自英国占领香港后曾是工业和仓库用地发展之地,之后成为华人主要的聚居地,亦曾为英国殖民政府的军事基地,是香港岛的三大中心区之一,至今湾仔内遗留许多历史建筑)跑马地附近,陆灼文曾在跑马地附近办义学.为贫苦学生提供学习受教育的机会,后来成为香港一带的中国近代著名慈善家、教育家,也是知名的办报入,曾帮助过《华宇日报》。
Born in 1904 in Hong Kong, Lu Qianshou was an influential figure among the first generation of western-trained Chinese architects. Lu trained at the Architectural Association School in London, graduating in 1930, when he returned to work as an architect for the Bank of China. Lu oversaw the design of Bank of China buildings in Nanjing, Xiamen, Qingdao, Jinan, Chongqing, and elsewhere, although he is most famous for his design of the Shanghai Bank of China Building. Lu’s designs for the Bank of China aimed to express CEO Zhang Jiaao’s belief that China needed a new architecture, one that would express the Bank’s modernity and trustworthiness. He achieved this goal through innovative use of design, symbols, and materials. In 1937, Luk Him Sau retreated with the Nationalist Army to Chongqing, where in addition to designing buildings for the Bank of China, he also a technical consultant for the Air Raid Precaution Research Council. From 1945 to 1948, Lu returned to Shanghai, partnering with Huang Zuosang, Chen Zhangxiang, Wang Dahong, and Zheng Guanxuan to opened Wu Lian Architects, which moved to Hong Kong in 1948. In Hong Kong, Lu Qianshou was known by his Cantonese name, Luk Him Sau.
