Cultivate Students' Self Taught Ability: An Important Target for Higher Education

自学 ,是大学生必须具备的一项重要能力。大学教育可以从教学方法和管理措施上作一些努力。教学方法上 ,以“少而精”的“启发式”教育代替现成结论性知识的直接传递 ,以“趣味性”诱导学生热爱本专业并从心理上减轻负担。在管理上 ,有 4个环节应该引起注意 ,这就是 :课堂教学环节 ;考试环节 ;选修课环节 ;

Qian Wei chang, President of Shanghai University once gave instruction that teachers should make painstaking efforts to bring up the self taught ability of college students, which is a kind of capacity for students to develop.For higher education, measures should be taken to improve teaching methods and teaching management. In terms of pedagogy, the principle of 'fewer but choice teaching content must be practised, and habitual doing that impartment of knowledge is conducted by means of logical conclusions must be altered. Meanwhile the content should be made interesting so as to enliven the classroom atmosphere. As to teaching management, attention should be paid to the following four aspects:1) teaching sectors in the classroom;2) sectors in examination;3) sectors in optional classes;4) sectors in postgraduates' courses
