Pragmatic Functions of Vague Language in Foreign Secretarial English Writing

本文从介绍语言的模糊性和解释语言的语用功能概念入手,分析涉外文秘英语写作的特点和重要性,并从礼貌、真实、效率、灵活、谨慎和委婉等角度阐释了模糊语言在涉外写作中的语用功能,总结了模糊语言在语言交际中的意义和作用。

Beginning with introducing the vagueness of language and explaining the notion of pragmatic functions of language, this paper analyses the characteristics and importance of the foreign secretarial English writing and illustrates the pragmatic functions of the vague language employed in the foreign secretarial English writing from such aspects as politeness, authenticity, effectiveness, flexibility, mildness and prudence, summarizing the significance and functions of the vague language in the communication.
