Site Planning, the book by Kevin Lynch, could come in handy in these days of "green" design and LEED certification. Architects are bombarded with directives on the best way to design, position, and orient their buildings on a site so as to be environmentally friendly. What an insult! What went wrong? When did architects lose the ability to work with an idea as fundamental as siting? Is it the fault of the Moderns again? They taught us how to occupy and construct a site, but sometimes also to ignore it. Nowadays, the public believes that architects don't know how to correctly site a building on a parcel of land without the aid of an Excel spreadsheet...
