This paper introduces the transformation project of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. By preserving some original parts of the historical theatre, designing a new auditorium and creating new public spaces, the architects have combined a disparate set of buildings with different styles into a whole, and rebuilt the relationship between the theatre complex and its neighboring urban context.
