Spirodiclofen, spiromesifen and spirotetramat, a class of spirocyclic tetronic acid derivatives in chemistry, have been launched market so far as insecticides＆acaricides successfully. Their discovery approach, synthetic chemistry and patent profile were reviewed. The approval, marketing and application of the related products, as well as resistance studies were summarized.
