Background Neuropathic pain is manifested as chronic, intractable pain, and the pathogenesis is not very clear yet. The poor clinical efficacy of the commonly used treatments in neuropathic pain led to the exploration of new treatment methods by clinicians, At present, motor cortex stimulation (MCS) for neuropathic pain control has been increasingly used and investigated. Objective To explore a safe, effective, non-drug and new method for the treatment of chronic, intractable neuropathic pain. Content We summarized MCS-related foreign literatures in clinical application and research in the past 20 years, explored the methods and possible therapeutic mechanisms and progresses, and analyzed the clinical efficacy, the advantages, and disadvantages of MCS. Trend MCS is an ideal method for clinical treatment of chronic, intractable neuropathic pain, but there are still some oroblems durinu the treatment. More researches are needed to imnrove the method.
