The relation between Confucianism and Buddhism is an important issue in Ma ~ifu＇ s academic sys- tem,and is of great importance to having a comprehensive understanding of his theory. Master Ma＇ s viewpoint on Confucianism and Buddhism has the intrinsic clues and practical consideration, and his conclusion is made after he carefully examines and balances the gain and loss of each school as well as the status of people in mortal word, which not only avoids the shortcoming of being not practical, but also shows the best way of cultivation, therefore re- flecting the practical care in his theory. A better understanding of it is of great importance to the mastery of true spirit of each school as well as traditional Chinese academy.
