In order to reduce or even eliminate the pollution of the environment, we must carry out the scientific reasonable monitoring of environmental pollution. Environmental pollution is a comprehensive work, monitoring requirements are relatively high, while the GIS technology to meet the needs of environmental monitoring, which has become a major method of environmental monitoring. This paper mainly introduces the characteristics and environmental monitoring of GIS, expounds the application of GIS in environmental quality monitoring, pollution monitoring and emergency monitoring, hoping to help the staff in GIS environment monitoring.
